Fra forordet: " Vår felles bestefar har etterlatt seg endel beretninger fra sine opplevelser som hvalfanger og til&#13;
sist hvalskytter og medeier i rederiet ”Skytteren”.&#13;
Jeg har tydet tildels dårlige håndskrevne kopier av hva han har skrevet om sine opplevelser som&#13;
hvalfanger. Først kommer ”Hvalfangst” som jeg tror Petter hadde ambisjoner om å lage en slags&#13;
lærebok av. Dernest følger: ”Dagbog fra en Sydhavstur 1906”, som er en beretning om en tur&#13;
hvor kokeriet de fulgte, ”SS Nansen”, forliste.&#13;
Tilsist har jeg lagt ved kopi av omtale av Petter Sørlle og hans innsats for pelagisk hvalfangst.&#13;
Jeg har også lagt ved faksimile av det kart han tegnet over ”Coronation Island” . Mange nye&#13;
registreringer på denne skissen bidro til forbedringer av sjøkartene som ble utgitt av&#13;
”Admiralty”. Petter ga navn til en rekke steder deriblant de holmene som bærer Mimi’s, Reidun,&#13;
Mari og Gerds navn den dag i dag.: Signy Island, Reyd Island, Mariholmen ser ut til å ha blittforvansket til Moe Island. Et litt bedre inntrykk av stedene gir vedlagte fotografiene av Reid-,&#13;
Gerd- og Mari-holmene. Kopi fra dagens sjøkart kan sammenlignes med Petters håndtegnede."</text>
